What makes the Separation/Divorce Centre of Peterborough unique?
The Separation/Divorce Resource Center helps individuals, couples and families make positive life choices based on their understanding of themselves in relationships. Everyone has a choice to love unconsciously (recycle issues, distance, unhappiness, withholding, projecting, and withdrawing) or consciously (acceptance, happiness, wholeness, closeness, intimacy, and aliveness). The SDRC gives you the tools to break the cycle of continuous negative patterns and to build solid relationships
Why Mediation?
A Family Mediator’s role is to help families transition through some aspect of their lives. It may be separation/divorce, parenting teenage children, blending a family or family disputes about elder care.
Mediation provides a fair, safe and balanced process to help you transition through family disputes. Your mediator will facilitate the discussions between family members and provide a safe environment for you to actively participate in making decisions and focus on goals for the future- not blame for the past.
During Family transitions there are a great many issues to identify and possibly fight over within a family. Mediation helps you to resolve conflict, have a voice in the process and create transition plans that save you time, money and stress.
Mediation is great alternative for families that are looking for solutions outside of the courtroom. Mediated agreements related to family issues have a very high degree of compliance because they are specific to your family’s needs and your family actively participates in making decisions and creating agreeable solutions.
Many of us have friends, family members and/or clients that could benefit from mediation. Please help give these individuals a more cost-effective, efficient, timely and less stressful resolution…Family Mediation.
Do you work with couples or individuals?
We work with both individuals and couples. Couples can come into together initially for consultation or counselling but we believe that by working with individuals separately that there will be greater room for change.
How many sessions do I need to have?
The number of sessions are determined by the individuals. We offer a complimentary 15 minute telephone call or meeting to talk about our approach and to determine whether the client feels comfortable working with us.
How exactly do you work with individuals?
I work with clients based on the theory and practice of Core Belief Engineering (CBE). I have been in private practice since 2002 and have worked with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, money issues career inertia and personal self sabotage. Any area you would like to improve will respond to a CBE session.
To fully understand how CBE works, you must understand the power of beliefs. Beliefs are usually developed at a young age and determine our life script. If you change the belief that is fueling the problem or pattern, you will have tremendous change. A CBE process helps a person get to beliefs they were not even aware they possessed.
How long is a Core Belief Engineering session?
Individual Core Belief Engineering session are one-on-one and confidential. I work with one person per day, in person, on the phone or via Skype. Sessions are open ended and usually a day long (between 4-6 hours). It can take longer depending on the individual; we cannot predict how long. I ask clients to guarantee the day and not to make any other appointments- picking up kids etc...
I do not break up a session in four hour a day segments unless absolutely necessary, for the reason that CBE is designed to be continuous.
How much do you charge per session?
- Mediation- $180
- Consultation- $100
- Seminar- $480 +HST, books and materials included.
- Core Belief Engineering- $90/hr
We offer Paypal as an option for payment.
Are you covered by OHIP or by insurance companies?
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan will pay for work done by medical practitioners but I am not a medical practitioner. You may have insurance through your work place, or a supplementary health insurance that covers complimentary therapies; however, you need to read your policy to check out the details because most of these plans require that you visit a registered or licensed psychologist.
Do you offer reduced fees or sliding scale?
No. Unfortunately, because I am a private practitioner and not funded by other bodies, I am unable to offer reduced fees. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, I will be happy to speak to you and recommend a Core Belief Engineering Associate Practitioner available to work at a reduced fee.
I'm not really sure counselling/therapy is for me. How do I know?
I advise clients to really consider the benefits to changing a problem or not changing it. This question helps to clarify what they would like to do. I really feel that it is imperative to the success of the session that the client is ready to make changes.
If you don't believe that you can change, then that's the first place we need to investigate. It is very normal for clients to feel nervous about change; we tend to fear the unknown but it is through investigation that we gain our ability to choose.
Core Belief Engineering is a truly remarkable effective short- term-change technology and it goes far beyond what you have experienced before. All that is required to start is that you can imagine your change for the future. I hope this gives you idea of what a session with me can do.
I think my partner is the problem but they won't come for therapy. What should I do?
There's a quote I heard one day that really resonates with how I think a person should approach this. It said, "You can only clean your side of the street. You can't clean the other side". In other words, you can only change yourself, you can't force others to change.
In my experience, I think that relationships are often complicated and we can get caught in old patterns and dynamics. I believe that if you come on your own and look and change your own role within that relationship that your partner will most likely respond to that change positively. Most importantly, you will regain or build your own authority - the feeling that I have a choice.
If we want to come in as a couple, do you offer that?
Yes, we offer couples counselling.
Are my sessions confidential?
Yes. As a Certified Core Belief Engineering Practitioner, I am committed to providing my clients with exceptional service. As providing this service involves the collection, use of personal information, protecting their personal information is one of my highest priorities.
